The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu has instructed that all road projects across the country must be completed within a two-year timeframe.
Umahi conveyed this directive to road contractors on Wednesday, during a visit to the scene of a tanker fire in Eleme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Umahi emphasized that adhering to this directive aligns with the policy of President Tinubu, ensuring that contractors do not exceed a two-year timeline for road projects, excluding coastal roads.
The tragic tanker explosion at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State claimed five lives and resulted in the burning of over 70 vehicles.
While expressing condolences to the state government and the families of the victims, Umahi cautioned against attributing blame to the Federal Government and the road contractor for the accident.

Addressing a statement made by an individual purportedly representing the Ogoni group, Umahi criticized the person for making careless and inciting remarks.
He clarified that the ongoing construction work, including the reconstruction of a bridge, was not the cause of the accident.
Umahi highlighted the significance of Tinubu’s directive, noting that upon assuming office, the President ordered the redesign of the road.
He underscored the complexity of the construction, particularly on the 15-kilometer dual carriageway, which is one of the busiest in the country. Umahi detailed the extensive excavation and filling process involved in the construction due to poor soil conditions.
