Tinubu and the burden of post May 29

The 2023 presidential elections have come and gone leaving behind dusts that are finding their ways to settle. It was an election that can never be forgotten in a hurry based on the circumstances Nigeria and Nigerians found themselves and reported cases of irregularities that greeted the election . It will also not be wrong to assert that it was an election that divided Nigerians sharply along religion and ethnicity. It was an unimaginable period with different categories of people contradicting the basic principles of decency and decorum all in the name of politics. That Nigeria survived the period against all odds is a confirmation of the determination of Nigerians to make the country work.

Legal tussles began almost immediately with efforts aimed at stopping what could not be stopped at the polls. Understandably, it is the feasting period for the learned fellows. The man at the centre of it all is Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu, a former two term Governor of Lagos State has no reason whatsoever not to perform and deliver. Nigerians managed to tolerate the excuses of the Buhari Administration which will make it more difficult to tolerate any excuse from Tinubu. Nigerians are tired of excuses, interested in results and not blame game.

It is expected that Mr. President will hit the ground running proffering solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the country as no promissory note will be good enough considering the prevailing situation. Moreso, the President had indicated that he made adequate preparations for the office having spent years to strategically position himself for the exalted office.

Issues of insecurity is a topmost concern that has sent many individuals and corporate organisations out of the country. There cannot be any meaningful development in a threatened environment. The deplorable condition of infrastructure is another major issue. It is difficult for an economy to run successfully where roads are death traps and industries are powered by generators.  The imbroglio between the Federal government and some federal government staff is another issue that requires urgent attention. Strike must be avoided as this could derail the focus of the administration. Mr President equally has a responsibility to prove that he is a statesman forgetting the election and focusing on governance.

May God help the President to chart a new course of hope for the country. May God help Tinubu to leave the office better than he is going in and may Nigerians home and abroad have reasons to believe that the ‘Emilokan’ is truly prepared for the exalted office of Mr President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

(God forbid) Should the President begin to give excuses of years of rot in the system and not provide realistic solutions, then it shall be a sorry state.
