The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has prohibited the airing of Eedris Abdulkareem’s new song, “Tell Your Papa,” on radio and television stations nationwide, labeling it as “objectionable.” The track criticizes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of failing Nigerians through unfulfilled promises and worsening socio-economic conditions. In the song, Abdulkareem sings in Pidgin English, referencing his earlier protest anthem “Jaga Jaga” and highlighting the struggles faced by citizens.
This move aligns with NBC’s history of censoring politically charged music under its mandate to regulate content deemed immoral or sensitive. Critics argue that such actions suppress artistic freedom and stifle socio-political discourse in Nigeria.
