A horrific tragedy has plunged the community of Wassa Adansi, located in the Amenfi East Municipality of Ghana’s Western Region, into deep mourning and shock.
On Wednesday morning, May 17, 2026, an 18-year-old local boy, identified as Yaw Brakoh—popularly known within the neighborhood as “2 Cedi”—was arrested following the brutal killing of his elderly grandmother.
A Grisly Discovery and Local Intervention
The quiet morning was shattered when residents discovered the victim’s body at her residence. According to early reports, Brakoh allegedly attacked his grandmother and beheaded her. The motive and the specific circumstances leading up to the gruesome assault have not yet been established by local authorities.
As word of the heinous crime spread, outraged community members quickly mobilized. The local youth tracked down Brakoh, swiftly apprehending him. Described by witnesses as an angry mob, the crowd nearly lynched the teenager on the spot.
A tragedy within a tragedy was narrowly averted when the Wassa Akropong Police Patrol Team intervened. Officers broke through the crowd to rescue the suspect from the retaliatory violence, taking him into custody.
Investigation and Community Speculation
Brakoh sustained severe injuries during the mob assault and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains under heavy police guard.
While the police have urged the public to remain calm, speculative theories have already begun circulating through Wassa Adansi. Several residents noted that the suspect had allegedly been struggling with severe drug abuse, which they believe may have triggered the violent outburst.
However, law enforcement officials have refrained from confirming these claims. Speaking to the press, representatives stressed that forensic teams and investigators are still working the scene to uncover the full timeline of events.
The community remains tense as police continue their inquiries into what led to this shocking act of domestic violence.
