The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and mutual understanding as part of efforts to address the challenges confronting the country.
The Sultan made the call on Thursday when he received the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and members of his delegation during a courtesy visit to his palace in Sokoto, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE SULTAN’s MESSAGE
The Sultan stressed the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building, noting that traditional institutions remained critical to promoting peaceful coexistence, national unity and sustainable development
.”Peace, unity and mutual understanding are essential for the progress of our country. We must continue to work together to address our challenges and build a better Nigeria,” he said.
He emphasised the need for Nigerians to work together irrespective of their political, religious and ethnic differences.
ATIKU’s RESPONSE
Atiku thanked the Sultan for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and his entourage.
He acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers to national development, particularly their roles in promoting peace and fostering unity among Nigerians.
“We deeply appreciate His Eminence for receiving us. The traditional institution remains an important pillar in promoting peace, unity and national development,” Atiku said.
He also emphasised the need for collective efforts by Nigerians to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.
THE DELEGATION
The Sultan was accompanied during the visit by the Wazirin Sokoto, Magajin Rafin Sokoto, Galadiman Garin Sokoto, Sa’in Kilgori, and the Secretary of the Sultanate Council.
WHY IT MATTERS
The visit is a significant political signal.Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, is seeking to consolidate his support in the North-West, a region that will be critical in the 2027 election.
By visiting the Sultan, he is acknowledging the influence of traditional institutions and seeking their blessing, even if the Sultan’s role is primarily spiritual and cultural.
For the Sultan, the visit is an opportunity to reiterate his call for peace and unity, a message that is particularly important as the 2027 campaign heats up.
The reception has been held. The message has been delivered. And Atiku’s campaign continues. ValidViewNetwork reports.
