Stop abusing court process, Osun APC warns Adeleke

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of abusing judicial processes in the lingering legal tussle over the state’s local government administration.

The party alleged that the governor was attempting to subvert the Court of Appeal’s ruling of February 10, 2025, which reinstated elected APC local government chairmen and councillors.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, claimed that Governor Adeleke was backing fresh lawsuits filed by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who were elected during the February 22 local government elections.

According to the APC, the cases, instituted on February 28 at the Osun State High Court in Ilesa, were aimed at removing the reinstated APC council officials in defiance of the appellate court’s verdict.

The party also took a swipe at the state chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), accusing it of meddling in partisan politics. It described NULGE’s legal actions against the APC officials as an attempt to destabilise local government administration in the state.

Olabisi maintained that if Governor Adeleke was dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s decision, the appropriate step would be to approach the Supreme Court rather than allegedly seeking favourable judgments from lower courts.

He described the governor’s actions as a blatant abuse of court processes, warning that any attempt to undermine the appellate court’s verdict would be futile and could further complicate governance at the grassroots level.

The APC insisted that the reinstated chairmen and councillors remained the legally recognised officials and urged the governor to work with them in the interest of the state.

The development adds another layer to the ongoing political and legal tension in Osun State, as both the APC and PDP continue to battle for control of the local government system.
