Sowunmi Dismisses Health Rumours, Declares Tinubu Fit for 2027

In a surprising political development, opposition Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Segun Sowunmi has strongly defended President Bola Tinubu, declaring him to be in robust physical health and of sound mind ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, the Convener of The Alternative Movement urged Nigerians to dismiss recurring speculations regarding the President’s well-being. The rumours had recently intensified following President Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly, with critics attributing the trip’s cancellation to medical reasons.

“The President is in good health. The President is in sound mind,” Sowunmi asserted, condemning what he termed a culture of “self-hate” among certain citizens and political opponents who allegedly take delight in negative developments. He challenged Nigerians to shift their focus toward economic growth and investment opportunities rather than amplifying unverified gossip.

Sowunmi also took aim at fellow opposition presidential hopefuls, accusing them of undermining national progress by intentionally sidelining positive achievements while magnifying minor challenges for political leverage.

Turning to regional politics, the PDP chieftain rallied the electorate in Ogun State ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle. Pointing to the state’s nearly three million registered voters, he argued that the population should yield voter turnout figures capable of rivaling historically dominant voting blocs like Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.

Expressing confidence in the President’s electoral prospects within the state, Sowunmi urged residents to secure massive numbers at the polls. Additionally, he endorsed the political aspirations of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for the Ogun East senatorial district, emphasizing that the area’s strategic proximity to the nation’s commercial nerve center and the Presidency demands effective and influential legislative representation.
