The Senate has taken action against Senator Abdul Ningi by suspending him for three months following his claim that the 2024 Budget was padded with N3.7 trillion.
Senator Ningi, representing Bauchi Central and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, had asserted that the said amount could not be accounted for in the budget.
During the plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, brought attention to Ningi’s false allegation by reading out the transcript of Ningi’s interview with BBC Hausa.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio then called for the house to convene as a committee to address the issue.
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim moved a motion to suspend Ningi for 12 months, with an additional warning issued to Senator Sumaila Kawu. However, Senator Chris Ekpeyong proposed an amendment to reduce the suspension to six months, which was seconded.
Another senator, Garba Maidoki, further amended the motion, suggesting a three-month suspension for Ningi.
After a voice vote on the amended motion, Senate President Akpabio announced Ningi’s suspension for three months. Following the ruling, Ningi was escorted out of the Senate chamber by one of the Sergeants-at-arm.
Further details on the matter are expected to be provided later.
