The Olubadan Advisory Council is scheduled to convene on Tuesday to commence the process of appointing a new monarch for Ibadan land.
Following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81, after leading the ancient city for two years, the esteemed throne has remained vacant.
The customary meeting of the Olubadan Advisory Council will take place at the residence of the most Senior High Chief, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, former Oyo State governor, situated in Bodija.
Traditionally, during this meeting, the council will nominate the successor to the late monarch, High Chief Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Sources indicate that this nomination typically occurs following the eighth-day Islamic prayers for the departed ruler, which were observed on Friday, March 22, 2024.
Upon nomination, an official document confirming Olakulehin’s selection will be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
It’s worth noting that the Olubadan stool traditionally alternates between two lines—the Otun Line (Civil Line) and the Balogun Line (Military Line)—for the appointment of occupants.
It is also pertinent to mention that the immediate-past Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, following his two-year tenure, hailed from the Otun Line.
