School Bans Netflix Film Songs ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Citing Christian Ethos Concerns

Lilliput Church of England Infant School in Poole, Dorset, has prohibited the singing of songs from the immensely popular Netflix film “KPop Demon Hunters,” citing concerns that the film’s themes conflict with the school’s Christian ethos. The decision follows feedback from members of the school community who expressed discomfort with the frequent references to demons in the film’s songs.

The school communicated to parents that some families associate demons with spiritual forces opposed to God and goodness, and for this reason, asked parents to encourage their children not to sing these songs while at school, out of respect for those holding these beliefs.

“KPop Demon Hunters,” which became Netflix’s most viewed film ever in August 2025, follows the fictional K-pop trio Huntr/x as they use their music and combat skills to protect humanity from demonic forces. The film also features a rival group—the Saja Boys, demons whose lyrics explore darker themes such as temptation and seduction.

In the wake of parental feedback, acting headteacher Lloyd Allington acknowledged the song’s positive messages—such as teamwork, courage, and kindness—highlighted by some families. However, he emphasized the school’s responsibility to be sensitive to the diversity of beliefs among its students.

“We respect the right of parents to allow their children to enjoy the film and music if it aligns with their views,” Allington stated, “but we also want to support children who find some of the themes challenging in light of their faith.”

One parent, identifying as an atheist, described the ban as “a bit of an imposition and probably unfair,” noting that the school had never restricted similar cultural activities before and praising the school’s overall approach.

The controversy taps into broader cultural conversations about the intersection of popular media with religious values, especially as the film’s music—while fictional and animated—has sparked both enthusiasm among young fans and concern among conservative Christian groups.
