Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, officially commissioned the newly built Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Library Complex at the Lagos State University (LASU) main campus in Ojo. The four-storey, 350-seater library complex is celebrated as the biggest university library in West Africa, featuring modern facilities including 24-hour reading rooms, seminar halls, conference halls, administrative offices, digital research facilities, innovation labs, and extensive archives.

The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, LASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Tunji-Bello, and the Secretary to the State Government Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin among others.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the library as a symbol of Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to education, knowledge, and innovation. He emphasized that the library transcends being a mere physical structure and embodies the ideals that have shaped his journey — that education is the bridge from potential to purpose and a lasting legacy for future generations. He urged students and staff to take ownership of the facility, protect it, and utilize it fully to foster creativity, research, and innovation. Quoting the late literary icon Chinua Achebe, the Governor reminded students to embrace integrity in their pursuit of knowledge.

The library complex stands as a beacon of learning, innovation, and prosperity, reaffirming Lagos State’s commitment to continuous educational development. The Governor pledged further investments in LASU, including completing the ongoing faculty complex and other infrastructural projects, promising that the state will always invest in cultivating minds capable of shaping the future.
