According to reports gathered by ValidViewNetwork, Olona Oluwapelumi, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Technology Akure, has committed suicide at his home in Aule Area, Akure which is the state capital of Ondo.
ValidViewNetwork was able to gather that the deceased, who was known as “Black,” was reportedly a student at the university’s Industrial Design Department. He reportedly hanged himself in his room which is outside the school’s campus. At the time this report was submitted, it was unknown why he took the action against himself.
According to a school source, the deceased’s acquaintances went to his room on Saturday and found it locked. The door was busted after several calls without response, and he was found hanged.
In response to the occurrence, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police public relations officer, acknowledged the 300-level student’s death and stated that the matter had been reported to the police.
She further disclosed that an investigation had begun to unravel the reasons behind his action adding that his body has been taken to the morgue
“His body has been taken to the morgue and investigation has started to unravel the reasons behind his action, but it was a case of suicide,” the PPRO stated.
The incident was also confirmed in a statement from the school’s students’ union government, which was signed by its president, Jesunifemi Asoore.
The statement partly read, “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Olona Oluwapelumi, popularly known as ‘Tart Angle’, who died on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
“According to reports, his death was confirmed in the early hour of Saturday.”
When contacted, the Head of Media and Protocols Unit of the institution, Mr Adegbenro Adebanjo, confirmed the incident, but yet to give full details of the event as at the time of the report.
