World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka kept her historic three-peat bid alive at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday, withstanding a ferocious challenge from Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova to win 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(10-7) in an epic quarter-final on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The top-seeded defending champion was pushed to absolute breaking point by the sixth-seeded Czech, who fired 18 aces and repeatedly dragged the world’s top player into deep water with an exhibition of fearless, first-strike tennis. After comfortably claiming the opening-set tie-break 7-1, Sabalenka dropped her first set of the tournament as Noskova leveled the match with sharp baseline hitting and clutch serving.
The tension reached a fever pitch in the deciding set when Sabalenka fell behind 4-2 and faced a triple-break point deficit on her serve. Visibly frustrated and dropping to her knees, the Belarusian dug deep to find a crucial break back, leveling at 4-4 before forcing a decisive tie-break.
In the final shootout, Sabalenka built a cushion and ultimately closed out the two-hour-plus classic with a statement second-serve ace.
The victory propels Sabalenka into her sixth consecutive US Open semi-final—matching a feat achieved by Serena Williams between 2011 and 2016—and extends her tournament winning streak to 18 matches. She now stands just two wins away from securing a third consecutive Flushing Meadows crown, awaiting the winner of the all-American quarter-final between Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro.
