Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Professor Ngozi Nma Ordu, the suspended Deputy Governor of Rivers State, has once again emphatically denied widespread rumours of her resignation from office. Her Head of Press Unit, Owepele Benibo, dismissed the reports as “false information from the pit of hell,” stressing that Professor Ordu remains fully committed to the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This marks the second instance in recent months that such rumours have surfaced, indicating persistent political tensions within the state. The first wave of similar allegations emerged on March 5, 2025, primarily through social media platforms, and was similarly debunked by her media team.
Speaking in a telephone interview today, Benibo reiterated that the Deputy Governor has no intention of stepping down, particularly at a crucial time when active reconciliation efforts are underway to restore peace and stability in Rivers State. He urged the public to disregard what he termed “fake news,” assuring residents that Professor Nma-Ordu is actively engaged in her official duties.
The political landscape in Rivers State has been marked by significant internal strife, leading to interventions from various national bodies. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have recently announced plans to establish high-level reconciliation committees to address the deepening political crisis, with reports indicating ongoing peace talks between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
While the specifics of Professor Ordu’s “suspension” remain a subject of public discussion, her office’s consistent denial of resignation underscores her continued assertion of authority and commitment to her role amidst the turbulent political climate. The retrieval of official vehicles from her residence in April 2025 by the Rivers State Government had further fueled speculation about her status, though the government clarified it as a lawful operation related to public resource management.
As reconciliation efforts continue to unfold, Professor Ordu’s unwavering stance on her position as Deputy Governor highlights the complexities of the political situation in Rivers State and the ongoing efforts to navigate a path towards lasting peace.
