On her way to work, a Nigerian woman boarded a commercial bus and attempted to pay with the brand-new N1,000 note, but she was turned away.
Up until January 31st 2023, when the previous design would no longer be valid, the new and old notes may be used together.
The bus driver argued that he would not accept the money because he was uncertain if it was real or fake, leaving the passenger stranded.
She claimed to have only the fresh N1,000 on her, which led to some delay because neither she nor they could move on to their destination.
Passengers are seen in a video becoming viral online looking perplexed as they continue to argue about whether the money is real.
The conductor was questioned if he was aware of the new naira notes that were being used; he replied that he was not familiar with the one the woman wanted to use to pay him.
A man then handed him an old 1,000 note, which the conductor claimed he could recognize even with his eyes closed.
A man seated next to the female passenger defended her and questioned why he was refusing her request to get off his bus.
The only option left to the conductor at that point was to collect it.
He went to talk to some of his coworkers on the legitimacy of the just released Naira.
