The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached a consensus on Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as its incoming National Chairman, marking a pivotal shift in the party’s leadership structure. The decision comes amidst efforts to foster stability and balance within Nigeria’s ruling party following the resignation of the former chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, born on August 8, 1968, hails from Dungung in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State. He has built an illustrious career as an engineer, academic, and administrator, holding degrees including a PhD in Electronic Engineering. His professional journey includes significant contributions to Nigeria’s education and engineering sectors, as well as public service in humanitarian and electoral reforms. He previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he was lauded for his reforms and innovation in electoral processes.
The party’s choice of Professor Yilwatda is widely regarded as strategic, aiming not just for administrative renewal, but also to correct religious and regional balances within the APC’s hierarchy. As a committed Christian and seasoned technocrat, his rise to the party’s top post follows calls for more inclusive leadership at the national level.
Professor Yilwatda is the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, where he has led initiatives such as targeting the upliftment of 1.5 million Nigerians out of poverty annually. His advocacy for unity, technology-driven governance, and social inclusion has earned him recognition both nationally and internationally.
With his official ratification expected at today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda stands poised to steer the APC into its next chapter.
