Abeokuta, Nigeria – Professor Lateef Oladimeji Sanni, a distinguished alumnus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS).


Prof. Sanni was recently appointed to the Board of the prestigious World Agriculture Forum (WAF) which a great leap for the nation. WAF is a leading global body that drives agricultural progress through key initiatives, including the World Agriculture Summit, the World Agriculture Prize, and the World Agriculture Fair.
Prof Sanni who is the current Executive Director of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Ilorin, emerged as a Fellow of the AAS, amidst a highly competitive pool of over 120 globally nominated eminent scholars, with only 80 shortlisted.
Notably,the conferment of the Fellowship on Prof Sanni as one of only two Nigerians ,underscores the significance of his accomplishment.
Professor Sanni, a Professor of Food Science and Technology at FUNAAB, has over 32 years of extensive experience in research, consultancy, and collaborations as a post harvest expert on tropical root crops. He has held significant leadership positions, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) at FUNAAB, Chairman of the Governing Council of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, and President of the International Society for Tropical Root Crops. He is also the current Mogaji of Olukunle Compound, Ibadan, and Amir of the FUNAAB University Muslim Community.
Prof. Sanni served as the National President of the FUNAAB Alumni Association and played a pivotal role in establishing the first set of Students Union Executives at the University during his undergraduate days.Professor Sanni graduated from FUNAAB with a Second Class Upper Division in Food Science and Technology in 1990 and earned his Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Ibadan.
His extensive career includes leading multi-million dollar EU/Gates Foundation-sponsored projects and serving as a resource person for the World Bank. He has mentored numerous academics and graduates, contributing significantly to scientific publications and reviews.
