Ini LGA, Akwa Ibom State – Utibe Eteffia, a POS business operator in his early 30s, has tragically taken his own life after being defrauded of N2.5 million by cybercriminals, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys.” The incident occurred after the deceased was swindled by the criminals, who cleared out his account.

Eteffia, who hails from Ini Local Government Area, had reportedly shared hints of his intentions on social media before his death. According to neighbors, he had become withdrawn in the days leading up to the tragedy and was seen crying on several occasions.
A family source revealed that Eteffia had been struggling to find his footing in the current economic climate and had allegedly become involved with cybercriminals on social media in an attempt to make money. He was reportedly introduced to a “Yahoo-Plus” cult cartel and was ultimately duped after being initiated.
Before his death, Eteffia visited his village and subtly inquired about church services, and requested financial assistance from his uncle, expressing dissatisfaction with the amount offered. He later attended church and, after everyone had retired for the night, ingested a poisonous substance. His body was discovered on the veranda the following morning.
ŘThe family has decided to delay the burial until the circumstances surrounding his death are fully understood.
