AKURE – Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command, in collaboration with the State Security Network (Amotekun), successfully rescued five passengers abducted during an early morning highway robbery along the Ondo-Akure Road on Thursday.
The incident, which occurred around 5:20 AM between Ita-Oba and Oboto, involved a commercial vehicle traveling from Ondo town toward the state capital. Armed men reportedly intercepted the vehicle and forced the passengers into a nearby forest, where they were dispossessed of their valuables.
In a statement released later that day, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, identified the rescued victims as Sunday Omodele (63), Osedimilehin Peter (29), Osedimilehin Ifeoluwa (18), Osedimilehin Florence (56), and Ademola Regina.
Swift Intervention and Arrests
Following a distress call, a joint team of police officers and Amotekun corps launched a targeted sweep of the bush. The operation led to the safe recovery of all five victims, who were found unharmed.
The security forces also apprehended three suspects at the scene: Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali, and Atiku Abubakar. According to the PPRO, the suspects have provided “useful statements” to investigators and will face prosecution once the inquiry is finalized.

Commitment to Safety
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the tactical team for their rapid response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to securing major commercial routes through intelligence-led patrols and routine monitoring.
”This proactive measure reflects our dedication to ensuring a safe environment for all residents and commuters,” the statement read. The Command also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities via the emergency contact 0906 058 8958.
