The Nigeria Police Force has announced a series of successful sting operations resulting in the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims, the arrest of three suspected terrorists, and the recovery of ₦10.3 million in cash, arms, and ammunition across several states.
In Imo State, police operatives, working with local vigilantes, raided a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout in Okigwe LGA in the early hours of April 17, 2025. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects after a gun battle. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges, mobile devices, laptops, and ₦10.3 million believed to be ransom proceeds.
Meanwhile, in Edo State, police responded swiftly to the abduction of 10 students en route to Babcock University for a conference. Following a fierce gunfight, one kidnapper was neutralized, and all 10 students were rescued unharmed. Two additional kidnap victims, taken from their home in Oluoke community, were also freed by police on April 18, 2025.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers’ bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property while respecting human rights. The police leadership assured the public of continued efforts to combat crime nationwide.
