Police recover stolen car in Abuja, suspect flees scene

The FCT Police Command has recovered a grey Toyota Corolla with registration number KWL 738 BB during a routine early morning patrol along Apo Dutse Road, Abuja.

The operation, conducted by the Command’s Scorpion Squad and led by ASP Momoh, took place at approximately 5:00 am.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said officers on patrol observed the vehicle being driven by a lone occupant who displayed suspicious behaviour.

“When flagged down by the operatives, the individual abandoned the car and fled into a nearby bush,” Adeh stated.

The statement partly read: “While on patrol, the officers noticed the vehicle with a single occupant who appeared nervous and fidgety at the wheel. Acting on their instincts, the officers flagged the vehicle down. In a swift turn of events, the occupant abandoned the car and fled into a nearby bush upon being signalled to stop.

“An analysis of the vehicle’s documents enabled the operatives to identify and contact the owner, Mr Kaseem Mustapha, who was fast asleep at home at the time of the incident. Upon waking and hearing about the situation, Mr Mustapha rushed out to find that his car had indeed been taken from where it was parked.

“The recovery of the vehicle brought immense relief to Mr Mustapha, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the officers for their prompt and diligent work as further investigation into the incident commenced.”

Adeh said investigations into the incident were ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
She assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safety and security.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly,” she added.
