Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun state have arrested the impeached chairman of Ijebu-east LGA, Wale Adedayo.
Adedayo had been in the news following his allegation against the state governor of financial misappropriation and diversion of funds.
The wife of the erstwhile LG chairman, Kafayat Adedayo, confirmed that her husband was arrested on Monday by police officers from the state command headquarters, Eleweran in Abeokuta.
She said the officers informed her that his arrest was based on a petition written against him by the state government.
“They came on Monday afternoon in a Mitsubishi car to effect his arrest. About four of them were in uniform, while others were in mufti,” she said.
“The police operatives said they were acting on instructions based on a petition filed against him by the state government. He was taken to Abeokuta by the police.”
The commissioner of police in the state, CP Abiodun Alamutu, also confirmed Adedayo’s arrest.
On August 31, Adedayo was suspended by the LGA legislative house for three months over allegations of maladministration and financial management.
On September 14, he was impeached by five out of 11 members of the LGA’s legislative chamber over allegations of financial misappropriation and diversion of funds.
The following day, Adedayo was invited, and detained by the Department of Security Services (DSS).
He was released after spending four days in detention following the allegations he made against the governor.
In a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Ijebu-east LGA on September 19, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, said he would ensure that Adedayo was held accountable for his words.
He said he was ready to defend himself against allegations of diversion of funds raised by the erstwhile LG chairman.
