Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.
The arrest follows a formal complaint lodged at the Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Headquarters by the victim’s mother. According to the police, the incident occurred on August 30, 2026, at a residence located in the Odo Idi Scale neighborhood of Oke Sopen, situated within the Ijebu North Local Government Area.
Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, stated that investigators immediately secured the crime scene and escorted the survivor to the General Hospital. She was provided with a formal police medical form to undergo a comprehensive medical examination and receive necessary support in line with survivor-centred protocols.
While Kamula is currently being held in police custody for interrogation, security operatives have launched an intelligence-led manhunt to capture a fleeing co-suspect identified as Boye Balogun, who remains at large.
The case has been ordered for immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discrete consolidation and subsequent prosecution.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the attack, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward sexual and gender-based violence. The commissioner assured the public that no effort would be spared to ensure all perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
