Plateau Police Nab Fifth Suspect Over Torture and Mob Killing of Jos Model

​JOS — The Plateau State Police Command has intensified its dragnet into the tragic mob killing of 25-year-old graduate and model Ibrahim Mbaya, securing the arrest of a fifth suspect allegedly linked to the brutal homicide.

​The latest apprehendee, 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, is a student political figure serving as a presidential aspirant for the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) at the University of Jos. According to the state police public relations apparatus, detectives tracked down Beskeni acting on actionable intelligence gathered during ongoing underground operations.

​Mbaya, affectionately known to peers and loved ones as “Ibee” and a proud alumnus of the University of Jos, met his gruesome end after being falsely accused of theft. The victim was cornered over an alleged missing iPhone, subjected to hours of severe physical abuse, and ultimately beaten to death by a rampaging crowd.

​State Police Spokesperson SP Alfred Alabo addressed journalists during a suspect parade session on Wednesday, detailing the expanding scope of the investigation. Preliminary findings place Beskeni directly at the scene of the crime, actively participating in the sadistic ordeal. Investigators uncovered that the suspect allegedly assisted in physically binding Mbaya to a utility pole while vigilante-style torturers descended upon the helpless young man.

​Four primary suspects were previously taken into custody as law enforcement scrambled to piece together the sequence of events that robbed the creative community of a promising young talent.

​Plateau State Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, has extended formal condolences to the grieving family of the deceased. Reassuring residents of the command’s unwavering resolve, the Commissioner vowed that every individual culpable—either through direct physical assault or incitement—will be brought to justice to face the full weight of the law without fear or favor.
