The Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has made adjustments to the panel tasked with investigating allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, following the established impeachment procedures of the assembly.
In a revised list provided to PUNCH Online via a letter from the court’s chief registrar, B.O Osawaru, two members, Prof Violet Aigbokhaebo and Prof Boniface Edegbai, were replaced on Monday.
The panel, now finalized, is set to begin its proceedings soon, maintaining Hon. Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.) as the chairperson.

As per the letter, “In accordance with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice D.I. Okungbowa, has established a seven-person panel to investigate the allegations outlined in the impeachment notice against Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.”
“This follows the resolution passed by the Edo State House of Assembly on March 19, 2024, forwarded to the Edo State Chief Judge.”
The panel includes Hon. Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.) as Chairman, alongside Prof Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Dr. Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aigbokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare as members.
