The Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has condemned a reckless tricycle rider whose dangerous one-way driving caused a serious accident in Ibadan, leaving a pedestrian, Mr. Oladayo Adisa, with severe facial injuries.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning near a petrol station in Ibadan when Mr. Adisa was crossing the road. According to OYRTMA Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd.), the tricycle rider was speeding against traffic, violating traffic laws and endangering lives.
Eyewitnesses reported that the rider showed no remorse and claimed he lacked funds to assist the injured man. However, the petrol station manager and OYRTMA officers quickly responded, rushing Mr. Adisa to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Upon regaining consciousness, Mr. Adisa praised the swift action of the rescue team and urged strict enforcement against traffic violators, saying, “If OYRTMA catches any rider taking one way, they should not release them until they are taken to court.”

Major Adesagba expressed deep concern over the increasing trend of one-way driving, describing it as a dangerous menace. He emphasized that despite government efforts to curb such violations, some road users continue to jeopardize public safety through negligence.
In a related incident at Agbarigo, Mokola, Ibadan, a TVS motorcycle (registration LUY 306 UT) was involved in a fatal crash that claimed one life and injured two others. OYRTMA’s rescue team promptly transported the victims to Oyo State Hospital at Ring Road and recovered their personal belongings, returning them to the family—highlighting the agency’s integrity and commitment to public service.

Major Adesagba praised the Oyo State Government’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and vowed that OYRTMA would continue rigorous enforcement of traffic laws. He urged the public to cooperate with traffic officers and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
“Together, through shared responsibility and collaboration, we can make our roads safer for all,” he concluded.
