The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) rolled out welfare packages comprising foodstuffs and cash transfers to more than 10,000 vulnerable individuals across the state on Monday . Beneficiaries, including widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, received support at Alegongo Community Hall in Akobo, Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan . OYCSDA Chairman Abideen Adeaga hailed Governor Seyi Makinde for funding the initiative, which forms part of the psychosocial support under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme .
This distribution underscores Oyo’s ongoing commitment to micro-projects and social safety nets, with simultaneous events in zones like Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ibarapa, and Ogbomoso . Adeaga noted that the agency has executed projects in 144 communities, covering water supply, erosion control, education, and healthcare, impacting broader populations . The psychosocial arm, designed by the World Bank, Oyo government, and federal partners, aims to bolster economic survival for the needy through items, funds, and counselling .
Beneficiary Hamzat Ade voiced gratitude on behalf of recipients, praising the inclusion of aged persons, widows, and disabled individuals in governance priorities . Earlier phases, such as June’s Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery, delivered 10kg rice bags to 30,000 residents, signaling consistent state intervention . OYCSDA’s efforts build on prior cycles targeting over 12,000 in 2024, enhancing emotional and economic resilience .
Dignitaries present included Lagelu Local Government Chairman Ayobami Akinwole, former Commissioner Oribayo Okeyode, PDP State Organising Secretary Wulemotu Ibitoye, and Babatunde Tijani . These initiatives align with recent federal supports, like the First Lady’s ₦200,000 grants to 250 persons with disabilities in Oyo last week .
