A group of reinstated teachers under the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), known as the G25, have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene in what they describe as an unjust grade level placement by the Commission.
The teachers voiced their concerns following a meeting held at the TESCOM office in the Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan.
According to the group, they were invited after reports circulated that the Governor had issued a directive concerning their promotion arrears and long-awaited salary adjustments.
Members of the G25 said they attended the meeting with high hopes, believing that the long-standing issue affecting their career progression would finally be resolved.
However, to their disappointment, they were again offered placement on Grade Level 9, a level they said they had already rejected twice before, in 2022 and 2023.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Bola Folarin, a member of the BPAOSA 1985 set, described the offer as “disheartening” and “unfair,” given their nearly two decades of service to the state.
“We were deeply disappointed,” Folarin said. “After almost 20 years of loyal service to Oyo State and TESCOM, being offered Grade Level 9 for the third time feels like a great injustice.”
She emphasized that Governor Makinde’s reputation for fairness and compassion made the group believe the directive did not come directly from him.
The G25 maintained that their rightful placement should be Grade Level 15, reflecting their qualifications, years of experience, and dedication to the teaching profession.
“We are confident that His Excellency would not knowingly approve such treatment. We appeal to him to issue a clear, written directive to ensure justice is done,” the group stated.
They also urged the government to fast-track the resolution of their case to prevent further demoralization of long-serving teachers who have contributed to the development of education in Oyo State.
“We are not asking for favors, only for fairness. We appeal to His Excellency to look into this matter personally and rectify the injustice,” Folarin added.
The teachers’ renewed call comes two months after a similar report published on August 28, 2025, by National Daily News, titled “Gov. Makinde Urged to Intervene as Reinstated TESCOM Teachers Reject Grade Level 9 Placement.”
Recall that G25 group refers to a group of 25 teachers who were reinstated into the Oyo State Teaching Service after years of service interruptions linked to administrative issues in previous administrations.
Since their reinstatement, they have been engaged in a protracted struggle for proper placement and payment of promotion arrears.
Their demand centers on being restored to Grade Level 15, which they argue accurately reflects their qualifications and years of service before their reinstatement.
Despite multiple meetings and assurances, the teachers claim that TESCOM has repeatedly offered them a lower grade, leading to the ongoing dispute.
