The Oyo State Government has introduced a standardized fee of ₦14,000 per meter for borehole drilling across the state. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Arc. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, during a stakeholder meeting held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The meeting aimed to address challenges in groundwater abstraction and foster collaboration for sustainable resource management. Mogbonjubola emphasized Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to providing potable water and creating an enabling environment for borehole drilling in communities.
Dr. Sunday Ojelabi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, highlighted the importance of aligning with government efforts to enhance service delivery and ensure compliance with regulations. Stakeholders were urged to support this initiative for seamless operations within the sector.
Industry expert Mr. Ajayi Richard shared progress in groundwater abstraction, noting partnerships with 23 companies and employment opportunities created by active drilling machines. The event featured key stakeholders, including representatives from AWDROP, NMGS, and Indigenous Drillers.
The meeting concluded with commitments to proper regulation, fair pricing, and sustainable practices in groundwater management.
