
Acting on precise intelligence, officers from the Oyo State Police Command halted a DAF truck (registration OGUN SGM 765 XB) at Sango, Saki, around 11:10 p.m. The stop-and-search uncovered 42 bags—described variably as 40 or 42 items—hidden inside, suspected to be explosive devices.
The driver, 30-year-old Mutairu Yusuf from Atiru Compound, Chikanda in Kwara State, was detained immediately. Preliminary questioning indicated the cargo originated in Ibadan, heading toward Chikanda, raising alarms about possible illicit transport across state lines.
Commissioner Femi Haruna swiftly mobilized the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) units to secure the site and initiate forensic tests, ensuring no immediate public risk.

A thorough probe is determining the materials’ composition, source, and purpose, with Yusuf cooperating under interrogation by the Police Monitoring Unit. Authorities emphasize proactive policing, crediting Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun’s guidance.
Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka reassured Ibadan and Oyo residents via Sunday’s statement, promising updates as analysis progresses. This incident echoes recent Oyo security sweeps, underscoring vigilance against hidden threats.
