Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has categorically dismissed aspirations for the presidency or any other political office upon the conclusion of his tenure, stating his firm intention to step away from elective politics entirely.
Addressing the public during an interview on Arise TV, the Abia chief executive cleared the air regarding speculative political alignments and future electoral ambitions, maintaining that his primary engagement is fulfilling a specific mandate for the state.
“By the time I’m done with this, I’ll retire. So I’m not going to run for any other thing, not local government chairman, not Senate, not president, no,” Otti stated. “I think I came to deliver a calling, and that is what I’m doing now. Once I finish it, I’ll retire. And I’m not getting any younger anymore.”
The governor also addressed discussions surrounding former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s political trajectory, confirming that there is no friction between them. He noted that political tolerance remains fundamental, emphasizing that any politician—including opposition figures—would enjoy unhindered freedom to campaign within Abia State.
“Peter Obi and I are not fighting. Just like there’s nobody I’m fighting. So if he wants to campaign in the state, he will be allowed to campaign. If any other person, even Atiku, if he wants to campaign, he will be allowed to campaign. So that is what democracy is about,” Otti added.
