Super Eagles striker says lucky No. 45 jersey remains part of his journey with the Turkish champions
ISTANBUL, Turkey
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed why he turned down the opportunity to wear Galatasaray’s iconic number nine shirt, choosing instead to retain the number 45 jersey that has accompanied him since arriving at the Turkish club.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Osimhen, who completed a permanent move to the Turkish champions after an impressive loan spell, said he believes the number 45 has brought him luck and prefers to continue wearing it ahead of the new season.
Why Osimhen Rejected the No. 9 Shirt
The Nigerian international had been widely tipped to inherit Galatasaray’s famous number nine shirt, traditionally worn by the club’s leading strikers and previously associated with Mauro Icardi.
However, Osimhen opted to continue with the number 45 jersey, a decision he says is rooted in personal conviction rather than prestige.
According to Turkish sports outlet Sabah Spor, the striker explained his decision while addressing the club.
“I believe you will sell more shirts, but I think you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray.”I want to continue with the same number,” Osimhen said.
Number 45 Becomes Osimhen’s Identity
ValidViewNetwork reports that Osimhen has become one of Galatasaray’s most influential players since arriving in Istanbul, helping the club with crucial goals and standout performances.
His exploits have quickly made him a fan favourite at Rams Park, with many supporters identifying him with the number 45 shirt.
The decision to retain the jersey also reinforces the striker’s belief in continuity as he prepares for another demanding campaign with the Turkish giants.
Strong Start to Preseason
The 27-year-old has already opened his preseason goal account after finding the net in Galatasaray’s entertaining 3-3 draw against French side Rennes.
The goal adds to growing optimism surrounding Osimhen’s form as Galatasaray intensify preparations for the new domestic and European campaigns.
Eyes on Another Successful Season
Following a remarkable debut season in Turkey, Osimhen will be expected to spearhead Galatasaray’s quest to defend their domestic crown while also making a strong impression in continental competition.
