In a significant success for security operations in Southern Taraba, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested yet another key suspect linked to rampant kidnapping activities in the region. On 23 November 2025, the forces captured Alhaji Abubakar Bawa as he attempted to flee from Wukari Local Government Area.
Bawa is alleged to be deeply connected to a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing diverse communities in Southern Taraba. Preliminary intelligence links him directly to Mr. Umar Musa Geyi, a prominent kidnapping mastermind apprehended by the same troops on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu, Wukari. Investigations reveal a coordinated network with multiple violent kidnappings and ransom negotiations destabilizing the area.

The Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their unwavering professionalism and operational excellence. He emphasized that the arrest marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing Operation Zafin Wuta, which aims to dismantle criminal syndicates and restore peace. Brigadier General Uwa assured the public of the Brigade’s steadfast commitment to aggressive clearance operations, cautioning that every criminal involved will face justice as the military intensifies its efforts.
These developments underscore the Nigerian Army’s resolve to eradicate criminal threats and bring lasting security to Southern Taraba. Meanwhile, troops remain vigilant, as interrogation of the suspect and further investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the network. The Army has urged local residents to stay alert and provide credible information to assist ongoing security initiatives.

Alhaji Abubakar Bawa is currently in custody as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt the notorious kidnapping network and ensure the safety of all communities affected by these violent crimes.
This combined coordinated operation highlights the strides being made in the sustained campaign to restore peace across Taraba State’s southern axis.
