Ogbomoso, Oyo State – Philanthropist Hon. Femi Onireti is celebrating the outstanding performance of 34 students he sponsored for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). These students, from various local government areas within Ogbomoso, all achieved scores of 200 and above, with 19-year-old Olarinde Love Olayemi leading the pack with an impressive 326 marks.
The remarkable results come seven months after Onireti, through his Ogbomoso Educational Advancement Initiative launched in 2022, provided UTME forms to 100 indigent students. Beyond Olarinde, three other beneficiaries also scored above 300, while 30 candidates secured scores between 200 and 299, demonstrating the positive impact of the sponsorship.
In an exclusive statement to Oyo Affairs, Onireti expressed his profound satisfaction: “This performance validates our belief in Ogbomoso’s brilliant youth. When we invested in these 100 students, we saw raw potential. Today, 34% have proven that with opportunity comes excellence.”
The businessman further confirmed his commitment to supporting these high-achievers through their tertiary education. “From tuition to accommodation, we’ll ensure these scholars face no barriers in pursuing their academic dreams,” he pledged. This financial assistance aims to remove significant hurdles for students who might otherwise struggle to afford university education.
Olarinde Love Olayemi, a science student from Ogbomoso South, shared her relief and aspirations following the news. “Mr. Onireti’s intervention lifted a huge burden,” she stated. “My 326 score is just the beginning – I’m now focused on studying Medicine at the University of Ibadan without financial worries.” Her score of 326 places her among the top performers in the 2025 UTME, though it’s important to note that the overall highest score recorded nationally for 2025 UTME was 375 by Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State.
Education analyst Dr. Adeola Folarin lauded Onireti’s initiative, emphasizing its broader significance. “Private sponsorships like this directly address Nigeria’s 38% tertiary enrollment gap,” Dr. Folarin noted. “When stakeholders invest in assessment fees, we remove the first hurdle to quality education.”
As the university admission processes commence, Onireti affirmed that his team would provide comprehensive application guidance to all beneficiaries, ensuring they navigate the complex admission landscape effectively. This ongoing support underscores the holistic approach of the Ogbomoso Educational Advancement Initiative in fostering academic success within the community.
