One person has been reported dead and eight others injured in an accident which occurred along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway, near Ukpo Junction.
A commercial Toyota/Hiace bus with the registration number JRV 616 XA and another commercial Toyota/Hiace bus with the registration number JJJ 179 XS were involved in a tragic road clash on Wednesday night.
Four male adults and six female adults, as well as a male kid and three female youngsters, made up the 14 passengers in the automobiles. Five people made it out safely.
An eyewitness claims that one of the bus’s tyres pulled as it was moving, colliding with the approaching bus, which had the license plate JRV 616 XA.
On behalf of the Anambra State Sector Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Margaret Onabe, issued a statement confirming the incident.
Onabe said that the accident victims were taken by ambulance to Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Amaku, Awka, where one victim was pronounced dead upon arrival and the body deposited at the morgue.
She continued by saying that others were receiving treatment after receiving first aid from Nteje, the nurse assigned to the FRSC support area.
“The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserated with the family of the dead victim, and sent his prayers to the injured persons.
“He warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and wrongful overtaken, especially this festive period that the road is very busy. Drive to save lives on our roads,” she added.
