Ondo State-Owned Universities Resume as ASUU, Unions Call Off Strike

​Academic and administrative activities are set to resume across state-owned tertiary institutions in Ondo State following the suspension of industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Joint Action Committee of Ondo State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (JAC-ODSTI).

​The shutdown, which lasted over two months, was called off following substantial financial interventions by the state government aimed at resolving the grievances that triggered the walkout.

​Prof. Boluwaji Oshodi, the ASUU Chairman at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), confirmed the development, noting that the union had scheduled a congress to officially direct members to return to classrooms.

​Concurrently, JAC-ODSTI—representing the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT)—announced the immediate suspension of its indefinite strike. The committee credited Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Prof. Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, and Special Adviser on Special Duties and Union Matters Comrade Bola Taiwo for their collaborative efforts in breaking the deadlock.

​With non-academic and academic staff directed to resume their duties, students and stakeholders look forward to the immediate restoration of normal campus life and academic calendars across the affected universities.
