Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has escaped major injury after being involved in a terrifying high-speed, multi-vehicle traffic collision in northern Turkey.
The 30-year-old Cameroon international, who is currently playing on loan at Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, was traveling home with family members along the Yomra district coastal road when the accident occurred.
According to local reports and eyewitness accounts, another vehicle slammed into the rear of Onana’s luxury Hongqi E-HS9 at high velocity. The severe impact forced the goalkeeper’s vehicle forward into a third car, sandwiching it in a dangerous chain-reaction pile-up that left substantial wreckage scattered across the highway.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, promptly transporting Onana and his family to a nearby medical facility for precautionary evaluations, including scans for internal trauma and concussion symptoms. Fortunately, medical checks came back completely clear, and the player and his family were discharged later that evening.
The harrowing incident unfolded merely hours after Onana delivered a stellar performance on the pitch, keeping a clean sheet to help Trabzonspor secure a crucial 2–0 victory over Scottish side Hearts in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan quickly moved to quell growing concerns from supporters across Europe, issuing an official statement regarding the player’s health.
”André Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening,” Doğan confirmed. “There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Parent club Manchester United are understood to be monitoring the situation closely and remain in regular contact with the Turkish club’s medical staff. While images circulating on social media displayed significant front-end damage to the vehicles involved, the shot-stopper’s quick release from hospital has brought immense relief to fans in both Manchester and Trabzon.
