Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, on Friday, October 17, 2025, highlighted the indispensable role of data in both personal and institutional life, stating that “data is actually about life.” The EFCC chief made this statement during a courtesy visit by Mr. Goddy Ebuh, President of the Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON), at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Mr. Olukoyede underscored that data transcends mere numbers, explaining that it is integral to everyday decisions and national development strategies alike. He illustrated how data guides routine activities such as monitoring health status, managing sleep schedules, and organizing daily tasks, emphasizing its profound influence on human and national progress. “Your health status is confirmed through data. You calculate how many hours to sleep and time yourself to wake up. You schedule your day timely. This is how critical data is for development,” he remarked, extending EFCC’s full support to the institute’s initiatives.

Earlier in the engagement, CISON President Goddy Ebuh stressed the importance of institutional collaboration, advocating for the EFCC to attain corporate membership within CISON. Ebuh articulated that such partnership would enable synergistic efforts, including leveraging EFCC’s involvement in educational competitions and other member activities, thereby fostering enhanced cooperation in data-driven governance and anti-corruption measures.

This latest interaction underscores the EFCC’s commitment to harnessing the power of data and statistics in advancing transparency, effective governance, and anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria—core tenets that align seamlessly with CISON’s mission to promote excellence in statistical practice.
