
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday officially inaugurated Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo, as the new Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas. The ceremony took place at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome), Akure, marking the 12th Council since the state’s creation in 1976.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the traditional institution, describing it as the bedrock of society and a vital partner in the state’s sustainable development. He emphasized the Council’s constitutional role under the Chiefs Law of Ondo State 1984 (as amended), highlighting its responsibilities in advising the government on customary law, cultural affairs, inter-communal relations, and chieftaincy matters.

The Governor praised the outgoing Council led by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, for their efforts in maintaining peace, promoting security, and preserving Ondo’s cultural heritage. He charged the new Council to provide visionary leadership and wise counsel, especially on security, grassroots development, and communal harmony.
“I expect a Council that will continue to offer government wise and unbiased advice. Your collective wisdom is an invaluable asset that we must leverage for the advancement of our dear State,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. He also assured the monarchs of his administration’s dedication to their welfare and the full implementation of the “OUR EASE” 7-point development agenda.

Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to lead with integrity and fairness. He called on fellow monarchs to uphold unity and the values of their forebears while supporting the government’s developmental goals.
The event included an interactive session for traditional rulers to discuss security, youth engagement, community development, and cultural preservation. Key dignitaries present included Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and other top government officials.
