The Nigeria Institute of Town Planners has emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the leadership of the country. Adefela Sogbesan, the Chairman of the Ogun State chapter, highlighted that gender diversity in leadership is crucial for addressing the nation’s challenges effectively.
Sogbesan emphasized that the current issues facing the country require joint contributions from individuals of all genders.
He stressed that discrimination should be eradicated from leadership roles, advocating for more inclusion of women in decision-making processes. He noted that women’s ideas, proven effective in home-building, hold potential for national development.
The chairman underscored the significant influence of women in shaping societal attitudes and behaviors, attributing much of men’s character development to the influence of their mothers or wives.

Speaking during the World Women’s Day celebration at the state Secretariat in Abeokuta, he acknowledged the longstanding fight for women’s rights globally and advocated for their increased involvement in decision-making at all levels.
Sogbesan emphasized the importance of empowering women economically, highlighting education as a priority for enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
He also stressed the significance of women’s health and encouraged them to prioritize their well-being.
Furthermore, Sogbesan urged women to leverage technological advancements to address the country’s challenges effectively.
He commended the Association of Women Town Planners for their contributions to the field, particularly in Ogun State, and encouraged continued growth and strength among women in town planning for the profession’s advancement.
