The Abia State Government confirmed the unfortunate death of a student from Abia State University during a clash between rival cult groups over the weekend.
Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, addressed the media after the State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Alex Otti, and provided details of the incident.
Kanu stated that the government is aware of the skirmishes at Abia State University, Uturu, and has taken remedial measures to restore normalcy to the institution.
Security agencies have been deployed to the university to address the situation, and students have been urged to avoid violence and focus on their studies.

According to reports, tensions escalated on campus following a renewed outbreak of violence between two rival cult groups, resulting in the death of a 400-level History and International Relations student.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was attacked by members of a rival group within the university area.
Efforts to obtain comments from school authorities were unsuccessful due to communication difficulties, but the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, confirmed that the police are aware of the incident and are investigating the matter.
The Abia State Government, along with law enforcement agencies, is working to address the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff at the university.
