Ogun State Road Safety Initiative Highlights Importance of Pedestrian Awareness and Truck Driver Visibility

Road users in Ogun State have received a cautionary reminder to prioritize their safety by adhering to necessary procedures and signage while engaging in their activities.

This reminder came during a safety talk organized jointly by the Ifo Division of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Larfage Cement Safety Team at Pakoto High School in Ifo Local Government Area.

Addressing the audience, TRACE Commander and CEO, Commander Seni Ogunyemi, emphasized the importance of safety awareness among all road users, especially pedestrians.

He stressed the need for pedestrians to remain vigilant, walk facing oncoming traffic, avoid walking in groups, and stay aware of their surroundings.

Commander Ogunyemi, represented by Ifo Divisional Commander, Commander Michael Oyebola, highlighted key rules for pupils to follow, such as using designated walkways and pedestrian bridges, ensuring clear visibility before crossing the road, and utilizing Zebra Crossings where available.

In addition, Mr. Ademola Akindele, leader of the Larfage Safety Team, addressed the audience on “Truck Drivers Blind Spot,” underscoring the challenges and limitations faced by articulated vehicle drivers due to their size and structure.

He urged all road users to maintain a safe distance from trucks, ensuring visibility from all sides to enable drivers to make informed decisions.
