In a strong show of support ahead of their Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifying match, the Super Falcons of Nigeria received a generous ₦50 million boost from Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. The announcement came during a warm and motivational courtesy visit by the Falcons, led by team captain Rasheedat Ajibade OON, to the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Governor Abiodun applauded the Falcons for their outstanding achievement at the 2024 WAFCON tournament in Morocco, where they secured their record-extending tenth continental title. He emphasized that the Falcons have not only excelled on the football pitch but have also become role models demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and discipline for millions of Nigerian youths, especially young women.
“The Super Falcons’ journey embodies the power of dedication and unity,” Governor Abiodun stated, assuring the team of the unwavering support from the government and people of Ogun State as they prepare for their October 28 clash against the Amazons of Benin Republic at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.

The team arrived at the Governor’s office following their commanding 2-0 victory in the first leg of the qualifier held in Cotonou, Benin. Featuring goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo, the Falcons demonstrated their determination to secure qualification for the upcoming WAFCON tournament. Captain Ajibade and her teammates are expected to leverage the home advantage as they seek to dominate once again on Nigerian soil.
Governor Abiodun’s ₦50 million donation aims to spur the Falcons and their technical crew to maintain their winning momentum. His gesture is part of a broader effort to elevate women’s football within Ogun State and Nigeria at large, reflecting the state’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence.

The Super Falcons’ exploits continue to inspire not just football fans but the entire nation, proving that gender is no barrier to success with hard work, focus, and resilience. As the team prepares for the return leg on Tuesday, optimism runs high that they will extend Nigeria’s legacy as Africa’s premier women’s football team.
