The Ogun State government has dismissed assertions made by the Association of National Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) regarding a purported N20,000 fee collected for rehearsals at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, addressing journalists in Abeokuta, clarified that the money was designated as a service charge for cleaning services provided for the facilities, including public toilets and the rehearsal premises.
He asserted that the claims made by the association were misleading and had the potential to tarnish the image of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government.

Hon. Fagbayi elucidated, “The Association applied to the Ministry for the use of the facility and was granted approval. However, they failed to seek clarification from the Ministry after receiving the approval letter, which clearly outlined the service charge fees.
Instead, they chose to make unfounded allegations against the state government.”
He expressed disappointment in the ANTP’s statement, deeming it unfair and unjustifiable considering the government’s longstanding support for the association and others in the sector.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding section 6.1.3. of the National Cultural Policy of Nigeria, which advocates for state support through subsidies, grants, and other forms of assistance.
The Commissioner assured that the current administration remains steadfast in its support for the tourism industry and will continue to provide necessary assistance to foster its growth and development.
