Ogun State Forms Committee for Late Awujale’s Burial

Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Ogun State Government has officially announced the formation of a State Burial Committee to organize and coordinate funeral activities for the recently departed Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona GCON. Oba Adetona, who passed away on Sunday, July 13th, 2025, and was buried the following day, will be honored with a befitting ceremony in recognition of his significant contributions to Ogun State and Nigeria.

The committee, as detailed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, is tasked with ensuring a grand farewell for the revered monarch. Mr. Talabi will chair the committee.

5.Oba Lawrence Adebajo, Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo and representative of the Ijebu traditional council

6.Otunba Giwa Adesanya Yusuf, representative of the Council of Otunbas

7.Chief Oluwaranti Lekan-Osifeso, representative of the Council of Chiefs

8.Otunba Adegboyega Adesoye, representative of Balogun (Eleshins)

9.Chief Tunde Odulaja, representative of Heritage Group

11.Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi, Permanent Secretary, Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, who will serve as the committee’s Secretary.

The committee held its inaugural meeting on Thursday, July 17th, 2025. During this meeting, members affirmed their commitment to working closely with the late Kabiyesi’s family, who were present, and other key stakeholders. This collaborative approach aims to ensure the funeral programs are successful and truly befitting for a monarch of Oba Adetona’s stature, especially given the anticipated attendance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
