ABEOKUTA – Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a 32-year-old security guard, Friday Ayuba, for the alleged theft of high-value motor spare parts belonging to his employer at Ita-Asu Village, near Owode-Egba.
The breakthrough was confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.
According to law enforcement sources, the suspect’s employer grew suspicious and officially lodged a complaint at the Owode-Egba Divisional Headquarters at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Intercepted at Sagamu Interchange
Prior to the formal report, Ayuba’s illicit operation was cut short by vigilant operatives of the Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS). The team intercepted the suspect at the strategic Sagamu Interchange along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while he was attempting to smuggle the stolen components out of the area without authorization.
A preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the security guard had leveraged his position of trust to systematically plunder the firm’s inventory.
Stolen Items Recovered:
* 4 Air Controls
* 2 Air Boosters
* 2 Engine Seats
* 2 Fuel Pumps
The company’s management has since positively identified all the recovered mechanical components as corporate property.
Suspect Confesses to the Crime
During interrogation by police detectives, Ayuba reportedly cracked under pressure and confessed to the crime. Crime scene investigators have already visited the company premises at Ita-Asu Village to document the scene, and the recovered items are currently secured as exhibits.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, highly commended the swift, synchronized actions of the Quick Response Squad and the Owode-Egba Division. He also praised the company’s management for their situational awareness.
CP Ojajuni reiterated that the Command remains heavily invested in safeguarding corporate investments and residential neighborhoods across Ogun State through intelligence-led, proactive policing strategies.
