In a decisive response to the escalating security challenges facing Ogun State, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has unveiled robust measures aimed at fortifying the state’s safety and preserving its reputation as a peaceful hub. Central to the new security strategy is the documentation of all undocumented foreign nationals employed by multinational companies within the state.
Addressing journalists in Iperu following a high-level security meeting, Governor Abiodun disclosed that about 70 foreigners, mostly from Niger Republic, Sudan, and Chad, had recently been arrested after failing to present credible explanations for their presence. Many could not communicate in English or specify their purpose in the state, prompting immediate processing through the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The governor stressed that new non-indigenes arriving in Ogun State would undergo thorough screening by their local community leaders to verify their intentions and livelihoods. This initiative forms part of broader safeguards intended to prevent the infiltration of criminal elements disguised as residents or workers.

Concern was also raised about scavengers, who have increasingly become vectors for criminal activity. Governor Abiodun vowed that law enforcement agencies would intensify their oversight of scavenger activities, ensuring these groups are not exploited for illegal purposes. Similarly, authorities will clamp down on illegal mining and unlawful enclave settlements such as the notorious “Zanga” in Ijebu-Ode, with the state ready to seize properties linked to crime.
Governor Abiodun called on residents to partner with security agencies through vigilant community policing, urging them to report any suspicious movements promptly. He also cautioned traditional rulers against allocating government land to strangers, warning of consequences for any found complicit in undermining the state’s security.
Describing Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial capital that hosts over five million daily commuters, the governor underscored the urgent need for a proactive and vigilant security posture. He expressed gratitude to the security agencies for their ongoing collaboration and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stabilizing the economy and swift action in securing kidnapped victims in other states.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to equipping security operatives with the necessary logistics and resources to sustain Ogun’s peaceful environment and thwart emerging security threats.
