Ogun Coastal Hub Reborn

​Ogun State is on the verge of a massive industrial renaissance as Governor Dapo Abiodun officially announced the revival of the long-dormant, multi-billion-dollar Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG) project.

​Speaking on Friday at the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Gao-Ibiade Road in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, Governor Abiodun revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has formally communicated its decision to breathe new life into the ambitious gas initiative.

​The revival of the OKLNG project—originally conceived as one of Nigeria’s flagship energy ventures before hitting a years-long standstill—is part of a broader, aggressive master plan to transform the Ogun Waterside coastal axis into Africa’s next major maritime and logistics powerhouse.

​A Multi-Sector Industrial Boom

​Beyond the gas sector, the governor outlined a comprehensive blueprint to fully harness the economic potential of the region, anchored by the discovery of premium-grade crude oil within the corridor. The state’s vision for the area now includes:

• ​The Ogun Deep Sea Port: A strategic maritime infrastructure project aimed at easing national port congestion and unlocking regional trade.
• ​An Oil and Gas Logistics Hub: Incorporating a major refinery, a dedicated dockyard, and a Nigerian Navy operational base.
• ​Enhanced Internal Security: Establishing a naval presence to secure the maritime domain for international investors.

​”We are preparing for the imminent explosion of economic activities that is about to happen in this local government area,” Governor Abiodun stated. “Ogun Waterside is a jewel that must be fully tapped.”

​Infrastructure to Drive Investment

​The newly commissioned Gao-Ibiade Road is the opening gambit in a series of critical infrastructure upgrades designed to support this anticipated economic boom. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, assured residents and prospective investors that the road was built to premium, durable standards to withstand heavy industrial haulage.

​To maintain this momentum, Governor Abiodun announced that the reconstruction of the J4-Gao Road will commence shortly, extending directly to Abigi, the headquarters of Ogun Waterside LGA.

​The administration’s focus on the long-neglected coastal corridor has drawn widespread praise from local lawmakers. Hon. Joseph Adegbesan, representing the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, commended the governor’s intervention while advocating for a follow-up expansion to include the J4 Junction-Iwopin Road to further link vital economic nodes.

​Similarly, Hon. Shamsideen Adekunle Lawal of the Ogun State House of Assembly confirmed that preliminary site work has already begun on both the Deep Sea Port and Naval Base, signaling that the state’s grand vision is rapidly transitioning from blueprint to reality.

​With guaranteed commitment from the NNPC Ltd. and active infrastructure deployment on the ground, Ogun Waterside is swiftly positioning itself to rival West Africa’s most prominent industrial zones, promising a massive influx of jobs, revenue, and corporate investment.
