The Ogun State Government has called on motorists and residents who frequent the Abeokuta–Sango Ota Road corridor to remain calm and patient amid ongoing construction efforts aimed at restoring the heavily trafficked route.
In a statement issued Thursday, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, highlighted the current challenges faced due to the earthworks underway combined with the effects of the rainy season, which have rendered certain road sections slippery and hazardous to navigate. He strongly urged road users to exercise caution to avoid accidents during this period.
Construction activities have necessitated temporary closures and traffic diversions, particularly along sections near Ewekoro where concrete pavement is being cast. Despite these disruptions, Engr. Akinsanya reassured the public that the Ogun State Government is vigorously working to rehabilitate the road, ensuring it will soon be restored to full usability.
Though persistent rainfall has slowed progress, the government remains committed to completing the project ahead of schedule. Special attention is currently being focused on critical areas such as Obada Oko, Ilese Awo, Onijanganjangan, and Ewekoro, where contractors are intensifying efforts to improve driving conditions and accessibility for all users.
Engr. Akinsanya further explained that while the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway is federally controlled, the Ogun State Government has magnanimously taken charge of its reconstruction. This intervention aims to alleviate the heavy traffic congestion, reduce travel times, and ultimately curb the loss of lives and economic productivity along this vital transport artery.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that with the expected subsiding of rains, the current difficulties experienced on the road will soon be resolved. He reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering durable, high-quality road infrastructure that meets the needs of the people across Ogun State.
Motorists and commuters have already noted improvements on other portions of the Abeokuta-Sango-Ota-Lagos expressway, where simultaneous work gangs continue to make steady progress on earthworks, drainage, and asphalt laying. Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration flagged off the comprehensive reconstruction project over a year ago with an 18-month completion timeline, underscoring the government’s resolve to upgrade one of the busiest corridors in the region.
Despite some setbacks caused by the weather, the phased approach and engagement of multiple contractors aim to ensure that residents experience less inconvenience while benefitting from the long-term advantages of a safer and more efficient road network.
The Ogun State Government urges continued patience from the public as it works relentlessly to transform the Abeokuta–Sango Ota road into a reliable and modern transport link that will support economic growth and facilitate ease of movement for all road users.
