In a significant development for Ibadan’s urban transport system, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR has ceremoniously commissioned the Ibadan Central Bus Terminals 1 and 2 located along Iwo Road. This event marks the completion of a major infrastructure project aimed at transforming public transportation and easing the mobility challenges faced by residents of Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his profound gratitude to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for his gracious role in commissioning these terminals, underscoring the administration’s commitment to completing initiated projects and delivering on promises made to the people of Oyo State. “Our determination is to create a modern Oyo State equipped with world-class transport systems where safety, efficiency, and business opportunities thrive,” Makinde stated.

The newly commissioned terminals are part of a broader vision to facilitate seamless movement within the state. The dual terminals include modern amenities such as spacious waiting halls, ticketing offices, eateries, public restrooms, ample open parking, and facilities including elevators and escalators, supplemented by power generation and water reservoir systems. These facilities are designed to provide commuters with comfort, convenience, and safety, placing Ibadan on the path to becoming a model African metropolis.
Governor Makinde highlighted that this milestone completes the construction of four modern bus terminals across key locations in Ibadan — Challenge, Ojoo, New Ife Road, and Iwo Road — aimed at decongesting the city and improving transportation logistics. The administration has also invested in road infrastructure improvements, including the dual carriageway between Iwo Road and Adegbayi, to complement these transport hubs.

With nearly 18 months left in the current administration’s tenure, Makinde emphasized ongoing efforts to pursue further infrastructure development across other major cities in Oyo State, including Ogbomoso, Saki, Iseyin, Ibarapa, and Oyo town, thereby propagating the vision of a progressive state championing efficient public services.
